Become a Trustee or Governor
Could you volunteer for us as a Trustee or school governor?
From time to time we have capacity for additional trustees and school governors who want to make a difference to the lives of children, educational staff and the local community. Trustees and governors are recruited to skills depending on what is required at board level at any given time.
Trustees meet approximately six times a year as a board; they also sit on one or more committees of the board which meet about three times a year. These meetings generally take place in term time.
Our school governors meet approximately four times a year in addition to conducting school visits to monitor various aspects of school life and the school improvement plan.
Trustees and governors sit for a term of four years, and both are supported by the Trust Governance Lead and the Governance Professional. Further training opportunities and support for the role is provided through the National Governance Association and external providers.
It is important that our trustees and governors follow the Nolan Principles of Public Life and are aware of the principles of ethical leadership.
Trustees and governors should be confident communicating ideas and requirements; they also need to be good listeners and be solutions focused people.
You do not necessarily need to have any experience in the education sector, although if you have been involved in school governance that will prove useful. You do need to be interested in the education sector and interested in children and young people and the ways in which education can change lives.
